Conference Talk: No One Sits Alone - Gerrit W Gong Printed Copy: https://tinyurl.com/snwvrz6c Look for the promises. Questions to ponder: 🔍 Key Themes & Principles Covenant Belonging & Inclusion Elder Gong emphasizes that in the Church, everyone is invited, everyone belongs, and, importantly, “no one sits alone.” He teaches that belonging is not just sociable but a spiritual reality founded in covenants with Jesus Christ. Recognizing and Bridging Differences He highlights the global nature of the Church—members speaking many languages, from many nations—and points out that differences in culture, background, appearance, or circumstance are not barriers to belonging but opportunities to reflect gospel culture. Gospel Culture vs. Worldly Culture Elder Gong draws a distinction between the values and practices of gospel-culture (unity, love, inclusion, service) and worldly culture that might promote exclusion or “in-groups.” He challenges us to examine our habits and ensure we reflect gospel culture. Practical Love and Outreach More than a principle, he invites action—seeing someone alone, offering a friendly seat, reaching out to someone who may feel isolated. Small acts of inclusion become expressions of gospel discipleship. Healing, Forgiveness and Hope He shares stories of individuals who felt isolated or unworthy, and how the message and love of the Savior changed that. He extends that all can be forgiven, all can belong, all can have hope. ❓ Thought-Provoking Questions Seeing the Unseen Think of a time when you or someone you know felt alone in a meeting, gathering, or ward. How might the principle “no one sits alone” change how you act next time? What barriers—intentional or unintentional—might keep people from feeling included in your ward or group? Cultural Differences and Gospel Unity In what ways have you encountered someone from a different country, language, or culture in the Church whose presence enriched your understanding of the gospel? How can you more actively embrace the idea that our differences are part of God’s design and help build unity rather than division? Gospel Culture vs. Comfort Zones What are some habits or comforts in your own life or ward culture that might make inclusion harder? How can you shift from “comfort zone” thinking (“we know our people”) to “gospel culture” thinking (“we are all children of God, one body in Christ”)? Small Acts, Great Impact Elder Gong says that a simple act like offering a seat or greeting someone can make a profound difference. What small but meaningful action can youtake in the next week to ensure someone doesn’t sit alone—physically, emotionally, spiritually? How might such actions not only bless others but bless you and deepen your own discipleship? Whether you study or not, please join us.
