Many of us long time New Englanders never expected to see the Blizzard of ’78 bested, but after the Blizzard of '26 blew threw this week, there is a new record to beat! With three feet of snow on the ground in many areas, and even bigger plow piles, you may be wondering what that means for your lawn and your trees and shrubs. In this Blizzard Edition of Healthy Lawns, Dr. Jim answers some of the questions you may have. If you don’t have time to watch, here is a quick summary: · SeaScape will be getting a later start this season due to the snow. · There is likely some plow damage that we will assess when treatments begin. · Snow mold looks awful (yellow, slimy, matted down grass) but just rake it lightly and the grass will recover. · The snow will melt faster now that the sun is higher in the sky and warmer weather is coming. · There may be some ponding once this white stuff all melts, but your grass will be ok. · Don’t remove the snow from your shrubs. Let it melt naturally. If there is some damage pruning will help.
