There is a wide variety of equipment used in both departments to both monitor the patient and help treat their illness. The aim of the course is to present to student’s methods for maintaining calm, professional and smooth-running emergency and critical care unit through students spending time in both departments to get a feel for how it operates and to learn about the responsibilities of people in charge. Moreover, the course provides students with an insight into the problems and challenges of medical equipment within a healthcare system. Core Knowledge: By the end of this course, students should be able to: • Recognize principles and concepts of Emergency medical equipment. • Describe how these equipment work and how to choose them. • Explain the operation and functions of the critical care unit machines • Identify the basic components of both departments • Recognize theoretical and practical basics for enabling students maintain medical instrumentation. • Define basic medical terminology and physical parameters needed on handling medical instrumentation Core Skill. By the end of this course, students should be able to: • Complete machine repairs and checkouts to comply with all manufacturer recommendations. • Acquire measurements data from patients and analyze/interpret it. • Prepare technical reports and fill in the emergency records correctly • Anticipate potential problems and avoid pitfalls. • Adopt minimal monitoring in ‘general practice’. • Perform testing and adjustments according to technical reference manuals. • Apply safety standards and select suitable methods and procedures for each medical device.
