Easily remember brachial plexus injuries, Erb's palsy, and Klumpke's palsy via easy mnemonics and simple explanations. Brachial plexus injuries, such as Erb's Paralysis and Klumpke's Paralysis, present distinct clinical manifestations based on the specific nerve roots affected. Erb's Palsy, or Erb-Duchenne Palsy, involves the upper trunk of the brachial plexus, primarily affecting the C5 and C6 nerve roots. This condition results from excessive lateral traction on the infant's head during delivery, leading to weakness or paralysis in the shoulder and arm. Patients exhibit the characteristic "waiter's tip" position: the arm hangs by the side, is internally rotated, with the forearm extended and pronated. The deltoid, biceps, and brachialis muscles are commonly affected, resulting in a deficit in shoulder abduction, external rotation, and elbow flexion. Klumpke's Palsy affects the lower trunk, specifically the C8 and T1 nerve roots. This injury often arises from traction or forceful abduction of the arm, which can occur during birth or traumatic events in adulthood. Klumpke's Palsy manifests as weakness or paralysis in the intrinsic muscles of the hand and flexors of the wrist and fingers. It causes a "claw hand" deformity due to unopposed action of the extensor muscles, as well as sensory deficits along the ulnar aspect of the forearm and hand. #brachialplexusinjury #brachialplexus #medicalmnemonics This video is NOT sponsored.
