A Joyful Celebration｜Chinese New Year at HWA International School

Last Friday, the HWA International School campus was filled with festive spirit as we proudly hosted our Chinese New Year Celebration, welcoming the new year with joy and enthusiasm. The event opened with a vibrant song and dance performance inspired by the classical poem Yuan Ri. Through a dynamic blend of recitation and choreography, students brought to life the poetic imagery of “welcoming the new year amid the sound of firecrackers.” This performance was more than a stage presentation—it was an interdisciplinary learning experience where literature, performing arts, and cultural understanding converged. It fully reflected the holistic education philosophy embraced by an IB international school. The celebration continued with an energetic bamboo pole dance, where students moved rhythmically between the poles in coordination with the beat. The activity not only highlighted the charm of traditional folk culture but also strengthened teamwork and physical agility. During the dumpling-making session, students experienced the joy of preparing a traditional festive dish together. From rolling the dough to shaping each dumpling, they engaged hands-on with cultural traditions, gaining a deeper appreciation for the values of reunion and sharing. The interactive “Charades” game brought laughter across the campus, as students switched between Chinese and English vocabulary. This lively exchange demonstrated HWA’s commitment, as a Singapore-based IB international school, to fostering multilingual development and intercultural communication.
