Bay Area Impact: The Megaregional Case for a New Transbay Rail Crossing

From February 4, 2021: A new transbay rail crossing between San Francisco and the East Bay would not only ease congestion along one of the Bay Area’s busiest commute corridors, but would serve as the lynchpin for an economic bonanza in the coming decades by expanding and better connecting multiple rail systems across the broader 21-county Northern California megaregion, according to a new study by the Bay Area Council Economic Institute. On this installment of our Bay Area Impact Webinar series, we explored the study highlighting the benefits of a new transbay rail crossing, as well as witnessed the project launch of Link21, a long-range transportation program sponsored by the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) and the Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority (Capitol Corridor) to transform the passenger rail network serving the 21-county Northern California Megaregion. California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA) Secretary David Kim also provided introductory remarks.
