During the heart of the evening rush, two crowded Antioch eBART diesel trains and one empty SFO train arrive and depart Pittsburg Center. Pittsburg Center is one of two stops along the East Contra Costa BART extension (eBART), which opened in May 2018 and serves Pittsburg and Antioch. The station is notable for being the least used in the entire BART system, with 100 fewer average daily passengers than Oakland International Airport, the next least-used station. The trains that operate along the eBART corridor are completely different than the rest of the BART system. These Stadler GTWs are diesel multiple units that run on biofuels and operate on standard-gauge track, instead of BART's unorthodox wide Indian gauge that's used for the rest of the system (not including the Oakland Airport Connector). eBART might be extended to Brentwood down the road (literally down the road - the line would continue to follow Highway 4), with a stop located where the Mokelumne Trail intersects Route 4. There's even the possibility that the line could be extended to Tracy or Stockton in the distant future.
