March 2, 2026 First Alert Weather and Surf: Get ready to look up! Tonight is the night for skywatchers as a stunning Blood Moon takes center stage, with the lunar eclipse reaching its peak at 1:33 am. While mid and upper-level clouds have been meandering over Maui County and the Big Island this evening. If you’re planning to stay up for the shadow’s transition, just keep an eye on those quick-moving low clouds riding in on our strengthening easterly trades along with passing windward and mauka showers. Speaking of those trades, expect things to get a bit punchy as high pressure builds to our northeast. We’re looking at moderate to locally breezy winds sticking around through Wednesday, which will keep brief showers focused mainly over windward and mountain areas during the overnight and early morning hours. Most leeward spots should stay relatively dry, though some lucky areas on the Big Island caught a decent soak earlier today from afternoon sea breezes. As we move into the second half of the week, the weather pattern shifts slightly. Starting Thursday and heading into the weekend, the winds will ease a bit and veer toward the east-southeast. This shift will likely move our limited shower activity toward the southeast-facing slopes of the Big Island and Maui, and even some interior spots. While a cold front is looming to our northwest later this week, it looks like it’ll stall out before reaching us, keeping our overall rainfall amounts fairly light for now. #hiwx #hnn #hawaii #hawaiinews #weather #meteorologist #lunareclipse #totaleclipseofmyheart
