There’s so much to unpack in this video. Ecruteak City is full of history and culture, just like its real world counterpart Kyoto. But the legend of the two towers is the most fascinating feature of the city. The mythical bird Ho-Oh is the actual name for the Chinese golden rooster / phoenix which roosts on top of the Golden Pavillion (Kinkaku-Ji), similar to Bell Tower. Its counterpart, the Silver Pavillion (Ginkaku-ji) was left unfinished (i.e. in a ruined like state until it was restored recently). This all makes sense except Bell Tower resembles To-ji (East Temple), and the Brass Tower (now Burned Tower) resembles the burned down Sai-Ji (West Temple). East Tower and West Tower are also referenced in the lore, with the East Tower (To-Ji, Bell Tower) being where Ho-Oh roosts, and the West Tower (Sai-Ji, Burned Tower) being where Entei, Raikou, and Suicune were resurrected by Ho-Oh. Wow, that’s just one portion of the city.
