Many of these early players now suffer from intermittent problems due to degrading electrolytic capacitors. Swapping them out will resolve most issues. A service manual can be downloaded free from the Internet. Although the case is a little scuffed in places this player still plays nicely. The album is Radiohead 'The Bends', but perhaps Dire Straits 'Brothers in Arms' from 1985, which was one of the first digitally mastered CDs (which just about everyone who bought an early CD player would buy), would have been more appropriate!
