Replying to the Question Hour, he said that passengers are being given a 46% subsidy on ticket prices on an average with the total subsidy bill likely to hit ₹56,993 crore this year. While responding to a query from MDMK MP Durai Vaiko about discontinued concessions for senior citizens, sportspersons, persons with disabilities, and journalists, the minister emphasised that Indian Railways continues to offer subsidised fares to ensure affordability for travellers.
