On November 19, 2025, the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners held a work session and heard a presentation from County Sheriff Alyshia Dyer. Sheriff Dyer explained budget shortfalls and the need for an additional $2.7 million to fund food and medical care as well as address staffing shortages in the County jail. This video is a summary of that presentation, plus commissioners' proposals that jail lockdowns be used as a cost-saving measure. The County commission ultimately approved $1.7 million in funding for the Sheriff's office but implemented other restrictions demanding that Sheriff Dyer cut 2% from the whole of her budget.
