It's time to start composting at home! Our beautiful Khamba makes it super easy, with no smell, no stirring, no maintenance! Ideal to keep your home safe & healthy. Click https://www.dailydump.org/pages/home-... Most people are worried that composting at home can be smelly, time consuming and unsafe. But that's not the case. In fact, composting is Nature's way. One of her many fascinating and efficient cycles to recycle materials and resources through a thriving process of change involving millions of organisms busily recycling organic matter & converting it into nutrient rich compost. When Daily Dump started in 2006, we asked ourselves what we - as a design-led company - could do to make this a part of an urban citizen's everyday behaviour. That is how we designed our first, actually India's first, home composter! In this short video, Daily Dump's Khamba explains how 60% of the waste from an Indian home is organic waste. Which means it is waste that can be easily converted to rich nutrition for plants. And the first step is to start segregating our household waste. In case you missed it, KaKhambambha taught us segregation in Part 1 of Khamba's Fundas. You can watch it here • Daily Dump - Khamba's Fundas: Segregate - ... These 2 videos are a part of the FOR COMPOSTING BEGINNERS playlist: https://bit.ly/3eakkcg For composting to happen at home, there are two major kinds of food that composting microbes need: 'Browns' : dry and dead plant materials such as straw, dry brown weeds, leaves and twigs. These materials are primarily composed of chemicals that are long chains of sugar molecules linked together. Browns are a source of carbon and energy for compost microbes. 'Greens' : fresh plant materials such as green leaves and garden clippings, kitchen, fruit and vegetable scraps, coffee grounds, tea bags, etc. Compared to browns, greens contain more nitrogen which is a critical element in amino acids and proteins. So greens can be thought of as a protein source for the billions of multiplying microbes. Browns, tend to be bulky and promote good aeration. Greens, on the other hand, are typically high in moisture, and balance out the dry nature of the browns. A good mix of browns and greens forms the best nutritional balance for microbes. This mix also helps maintain aeration and moisture levels in the pile. At Daily Dump, we believe that each one of us wants to do our bit to make things better.
