Songwriter Lynn Ahrens is one of the most successful lyricists writing for Broadway today. Once on this Island, A Christmas Carol, Ragtime, Anastasia, Seussical, and Rocky (all written with Ahrens's composer partner Stephen Flaherty) have delighted audiences.for many years. But long before that, in the mid-1970s, Ahrens wrote three-minute songs for the influential children's videos on ABC's Schoolhouse Rock. Her contributions were some of the most beloved: "A Noun is a Person, Place, or Thing"; "The Preamble," "The Great American Melting Pot," "Interplanet Janet," "Interjections!" and "No More Kings." This video is part of David Benkof's weekly FREE online class "The Broadway Maven," which meets Mondays at Noon and 8pm Eastern Time. There are also "Greatest Hits" repeat classes on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Check the calendar of upcoming classes and sign up for the Weekly Blast at TheBroadwayMaven.com. Lynn Ahrens will be joining the class on June 14 at Noon ET for a discussion of Ragtime.
