With its open-air design, lush greenery, and relaxed island atmosphere, this airport feels more like the entrance to a private resort than a transportation hub. Nestled within this tranquil setting is the Blue Ribbon Lounge, Bangkok Airways’ exclusive retreat for its Business Class guests. Though the lounge offers comfortable seating and a selection of light refreshments, my visit left me with somewhat mixed impressions. Stepping in from the tropical heat – with temperatures well above 30 degrees – I was greeted by an almost arctic chill, the lounge cooled to what felt like 18 degrees or less. After the island sun, it was a shock to the system, and I found myself wondering whether a gentler transition might have been more fitting. The culinary offerings, too, were surprisingly modest. In a country so renowned for its exceptional cuisine, the lack of any hot dishes felt like a missed opportunity. For a lounge bearing the Blue Ribbon name, I had hoped for something a touch more reflective of Thailand’s rich culinary heritage. That said, the service was warm and the setting pleasantly peaceful, making it a reasonable spot for a short rest – albeit one best enjoyed with a sweater close at hand.
