What if Dumbledore DIDN'T Put The Horcrux Ring On Discord: / discord Voice Acting & Narration: Steven Waters @bobablackfly602 Writing: Myself, @khuz377 , @viktoriafilbert What if Dumbledore never put the horcrux ring on? Let's explore the depths of it in the video. In the summer of 1996, the ruins of the Gaunt shack stand beneath a grey sky, the air thick with the stench of rot. Albus Dumbledore stands in what remains of the parlor, his wand illuminating dust motes that drift through the dim light. There, on the floor amid broken furniture and shattered glass, lies the ring. The Resurrection Stone gleams from its setting, and Dumbledore feels his breath catch. Images surge unbidden into his mind—Ariana’s laughter, his mother’s quiet strength, his father’s stern gaze. For a heartbeat, the world narrows to that small circle of gold. The promise it carries is almost unbearable. His hand lifts despite himself, fingers trembling as they reach toward the ring. The metal glints in the wandlight, radiant and inviting. Then he stops. Dumbledore exhales slowly. The years weigh heavily on him—years of loss, of mistakes made in moments of weakness, of knowledge earned too late. His fingers curl into a fist, hovering inches above the stone. Desire pulls at him, sharp and insistent. But caution holds firm. At last, he lowers his hand. Dumbledore takes a step back. He raises his wand, his voice steady when he speaks the spell—not to touch the ring, but to levitate it, to examine it from a safe distance. The process takes hours. Dumbledore works with the precision of a surgeon, peeling away layers of protection until he is certain the curse is bound to the ring, and will trigger only if it is touched or worn. He does not touch the stone—not once. Back at Hogwarts, he levitates the Resurrection Stone out of its setting first—carefully, without ever touching it—then brings the Sword of Gryffindor down upon the cursed band. The horcrux screams before crumbling to ash. Only then does he summon his phoenix. Snape arrives within the hour. He moves swiftly through the enchantments, his eyes going immediately to the ruined ring, the ash it left behind, and then to Dumbledore's undamaged hand. SNAPE: You didn't. DUMBLEDORE: I did not. SNAPE: That curse would have killed you within the year, Headmaster. You could have— DUMBLEDORE: But I did not, Severus. For once, experience proved stronger than desire. SNAPE: Then perhaps we have a chance. The morning after retrieving the ring, Dumbledore sits in his office as dawn light filters through the tall windows. The portraits of former headmasters and headmistresses watch him with knowing eyes, waiting for him to speak. Fawkes preens quietly on his perch, occasionally trilling soft notes of contentment. For the first time in decades, Albus Dumbledore allows himself to feel something he'd nearly forgotten: time. The knowledge settles heavily on Dumbledore’s shoulders. Time, he knows, is never generous. When it turns against you, it forces cruel choices. Lessons become rushed. Truths are revealed too quickly. Preparation is compressed into fragments, with no room for mistakes. He imagines what that kind of pressure would demand of him—pushing Harry forward before the boy is ready, forcing understanding instead of allowing it to grow. Teaching him to face horrors meant for grown wizards while still trying to shield him from his own reckless courage. It would require gambles. Dangerous ones. And the cost of a single misstep would not be his alone to bear. Phineas Nigellus Black stirs in his frame. PHINEAS NIGELLUS: You look... contemplative, Albus. Planning something ambitious, I take it? DUMBLEDORE: I'm planning to do what should have been done from the start. Teach Harry Potter everything he needs to know—properly, methodically, without cutting corners. He stands, moving to the window overlooking the grounds. Students will arrive in a few weeks for the new term. DUMBLEDORE: Occlumency. Advanced defensive magic. The full history of Tom Riddle and his methods. And most importantly, I'll be there with him when we hunt the horcruxes. At full strength. ARMANDO DIPPET: The boy's only sixteen, Albus. That's a tremendous burden. DUMBLEDORE: Which is precisely why we must prepare him correctly. No shortcuts. No desperate gambles. He deserves that much. DILYS DERWENT: Then you truly believe we can win this war. DUMBLEDORE: I believe that with preparation, guidance, and time, we stand our best chance. September arrives with golden light and the familiar chaos of students returning to Hogwarts.
