"For seven long years, Johnny court the Widder, for seven long years, and then he didn't get her" This Civil-War era tune comes from Roy Bennett (B. 1890s) of Meade County, Kentucky along the Ohio River, who was field recorded by Bruce Greene in 1976. Tuning is GDGD Other musicians, including Bruce Greene, have interpreted the melodic and harmonic structure of Bennett's version differently, my rendition stays more true to Bruce's modal version, although he played this one tuned in GDAD, while Bennett played it in F major (possibly in the same tuning as Bruce).
