Hello coaches, today’s session is about Combination play in the final 3rd. We look at how the primary team should combine with others in the final 3rd, When to combine and when to go alone and why it effective to use numbers up in the final 3rd. For the secondary team we should address when to press, hold or drop and pressure, cover and balance. Warm Up Time: 15mins Work Rate: 4 mins Rest: 1 min Reps: 3. Set up: Players are set up in a 4-3-3 formation. Organization A: #4 (center back), plays ball up to holding mid. 2 and 3 (fullbacks) move up to offer support (release valve). 6 checks should and can turn. Plays 8 or 10 (take turns) 8 (or 10) lays ball off for 2 (fullback) to warm up keepers hands. B: #4 passes to #6, #6 checks shoulder drops ball to #4, 4 sends the ball forward to 10 who lays it off to the #3 to warm up keepers hands C: (Not pictured) #4 passes to #6 who checks shoulder and drops the ball back to 4, 4 plays to 10 but now 6 supports. Drops the ball to 6 who opens up to find 3 on the outside. 3 then hits the keeper. They can use Yellow for depth and 2 and 3 to provide width. The 2 and 3 is only allowed to attack not to defend.
