Hey, guys, it's Jake here with etrailer. Today, we have a 2024 Subaru Forester, and we're gonna be taking a look at and I'm gonna show you how easy it is to install this CURT Four-Pole Trailer Wiring Harness. So if you've got a trailer hitch on your Subaru Forester and you're wanting to start pulling trailers with it, first off, you will want to check with your owner's manual, see what your vehicle's capable of pulling. And then second off, you'll want to add four-pole wiring. The four-pole wiring is gonna give your four lighting functions, which are going to be your stop and turn signals and your running light signals. That's going to safely transfer from the back of your vehicle to your trailer lights to let others know what your intentions are when you're going down the road. This kit, much like many other kits out there on the market, is going to have a converter box on it or a control box that is actually going to be the safety part of this kit. It is designed to protect the lights on your vehicle and your trailer. So if you have feedback on either one of them, you don't have to worry about one or the other ruining the circuits or the wires on the inside, whether it's your vehicle or on your trailer. With this particular vehicle, the installation is super, super easy. All you have to do is open up your rear hatch, take a few panels out. The wiring harness on the '14 and up Subaru Foresters is gonna be right down here at the bottom. So you'll have to take your skid plate off the bottom and then you can pull the wiring harness out, plug it directly into this harness, ground your ground wire, and then put your fuse in. And then all that's left is just to test the wires to make sure everything's working properly. It's very, very easy to get in place, and I don't see why you wouldn't go ahead and throw a harness like this on just in case you ever need to pull a trailer. But with all that being said, let's go ahead and show you how easy it is. To begin our installation, you want to remove the main panel that's back here in the rear hatch of your vehicle. We're gonna take out our spare tire cover there. You don't actually have to remove the spare tire itself, but this panel here has to go. The wiring that we're looking for is gonna be back in behind this panel. So that's essentially what we're trying to get to. (panel popping) So we'll pop these out. (panel popping) Get this out of our way. Just slide that over to our passenger side. Now, we can turn our attention to this lower panel. (panel popping) I'm just gonna pop it up. (panel popping) There we go. (panel clattering) And then we're gonna have a bolt that's holding this in place (tool clattering) right back here. So we'll get that pop loose, loosen that bolt up, and that'll allow us to adjust our panel. Now, actually, you know what we discovered, is in our instructions, it says that our wiring will either be down low behind this panel or up high. And we looked a little bit closer and it's right here. So we'll take our wiring harness, I'm gonna plug it in to that harness, and that is literally it other than taking our ground. And we need to ground our wire here somewhere. I think I'm just gonna ground it to this sheet metal. So I'll grab the screw that comes with our kit and get that done. (drill whirring) So I just grounded our ground wire real close to our harness here so that it's kind of out of the way. Now, we can take our fuse that comes in the kit, stick it in our fuse holder. And before we get our box mounted up, 'cause we're gonna take this and just slide it back in here and stick it to the metal, we're gonna go ahead and test on our wiring to make sure everything's working properly. Let's start with our running lights. Our brake lights. Our left turn. And right turn. Now that we know our wiring's working properly, we can take our double-sided tape that comes in our kit and get our control unit stuck to the inside of our vehicle. Kind of get some of these wires buttoned up and tucked out of the way. (tool clicking) Make sure our fuse cap is on. (wires clattering) And then for our four-pole wire, we're just gonna leave it back here in the trunk area so that whenever they need it, they can just simply pull it out and use it right there for their trailer.
