This video gives a detailed overview of surgical vision correction. It is the role of your cornea and lens to focus the incoming light onto your retina. Myopia is also called near-sightedness. Without glasses, distant objects appear blurry but near objects are in focus. Hyperopia is also called far-sightedness. Distant objects may be blurry, and objects are increasingly out of focus the closer they get. Astigmatism is where the front part of your eye is curved like a rugby ball rather than a bowling ball. The image arriving on your retina will be stretched in one direction. Presbyopia is the loss of elasticity and focusing power of your eye's lens. Presbyopia is the reason why people who previously saw perfectly will start to need reading glasses at around age 45. There are three main approaches to surgically correcting the focus error of the human eye.
