They are the non-dividing, tall columnar elements which extend from the base of the seminiferous tubule to its lumen They are the non-proliferative forms of cells called sustentacular cells. These cells are tall, slender and irregular columnar shaped with a large prominent nucleus These elaborate cell type consists of a narrow portion resting on the basal lamina, an intermediate portion which provide lateral processes around which the spermatocytes and spermatids are arranged and an apical projection which enclose the spermatids just prior to their release into the tubule lumen They are highly pleimorphic They are stimulated by follicle stimulating hormone to produce several proteins, which binds testosterone They nourish the spermatogonia cells They provide physical support to spermatogonia cells They provide high environment for spermatogenesis to occur They produce mullerian inhibiting substance that suppress the development of paramesonephric duct in male fetuses They are phagocytic in nature, hence, serves as macrophages #Sertolicells #Sertolicell
