The biomass of this fish in this river is just incredible. While this makes for great video and often for fun fishing, it’s also true that Blue Catfish are an invasive species in Virginia and Maryland. They’ve been shown to displace native species and some evidence points to them causing harm on other important species native to the region. This video serves as an introduction to the Blue Catfish populations exploding in Maryland and Virginia waters, but the next episodes in this series will fall under the heading of “Blue Catfish Truth”. In those episodes, I’ll be interviewing Aaron Bunch of VDGIF to help educate others on this species and provide guidance on what to do with them. Through this series, Aaron and VDGIF will communicate a suggested plan which benefits virtually all of the stakeholders involved in the Blue Catfish debate – but that’s for the next couple episodes.
