*(Disclaimer: This video content is for educational and informational purposes only.)* Los Angeles, California — On January 27, 2021, at approximately 10:30 p.m., officers from the LAPD Southwest Patrol Division responded to a radio call reporting an "Assault with a Deadly Weapon" near 40th Place and Vermont Avenue. According to the call details, the suspect, later identified as 55-year-old Randy Miller, was armed with a knife and attacking his girlfriend. Upon arrival, officers observed Miller inside a parked vehicle repeatedly striking a woman in a motion resembling a stabbing. At that moment, an officer-involved shooting occurred, and Miller was hit by gunfire. Personnel from the Los Angeles Fire Department arrived and determined that Miller had died at the scene. A knife was recovered from the vehicle and logged as evidence. The female victim sustained facial abrasions, but no officers were injured. LAPD’s specialized Force Investigation Division responded to the scene to interview witnesses and oversee evidence collection by the Forensic Science Division. A representative from the Office of the Inspector General was also present to monitor the investigation.
