With farming, being able to pivot from one task, such as harvesting corn to bedding down sheep, as conditions change is part of farm life. Welcome back to Ewetopia Farms! In today’s multi-day vlog, we start with our annual corn harvest. We managed to get about 30 tons into the silos before darkness brought the day to an end. At first glance, the drought may have reduced yields, but we won't know for sure until the harvest is complete. The plan was to finish combining the next day… but farming rarely goes according to plan. Cold rain and frost rolled in overnight, forcing us to put the harvest on hold. When the weather changes, we pivot — and that meant switching gears back to the sheep barns. Wet conditions and chilly temperatures mean it’s time to bed up the barns again, especially with our ewes only six weeks away from lambing season. We walk through the barns, talk about pre-lambing care, check in on some of our favorite ewes, and make sure everyone is warm, dry, and comfortable as lambing approaches. To wrap up this episode, we share a bit of local holiday cheer with clips from our community’s Santa Claus Parade — a reminder that the festive season is fast approaching even as the farm keeps us busy every day.
