AdventureBase : An interview with Jon Cox from Adventure Plus

Founded in 1990 by the current Executive Director, Jon Cox, AdventurePlus (A+) provides outdoor education for 6,000 children and young people each year, in a positive Christian setting. A+ has a 50 acre site in West Oxfordshire but also provides many of the adventure activities as mobile offerings which it takes to schools, colleges, churches and community events throughout the UK. Its home activity base is in Clanfield, Oxfordshire but it also works from partner centres in Shropshire and Sussex. This interview with Jon provides an insight into the exciting new AdventureBase project. Over the coming years A+ will extend its current range of adventure activities to create a unique blend of urban free sports and classic outdoor adventure activities, to challenge, inspire and motivate young people from both rural and urban environments. Plans include a Yurt village to compliment the conference centre accommodation plus a selection of exciting adventure activities including: Woodlands for bush-craft zones Mountain bike skills area and trail around site Full-sized pitches for multi-use sports activities Free standing climbing tower with aerial runway High & low ropes courses and initiative challenges Mountain boarding hill with underground caving maze Urban Adventure Zone: Skate Park, BMX Zone & Parkour arena All weather archery ranges 3 acre adventure activity lake with bridge building islands & seal launch In addition to the adventure activities A+ also has a full conservation and environmental programme to ensure our AdventureBase both compliments and benefits the local environment. The conservation team will offer wildlife and education activities for all ages. The habitat areas will be created in the AdventureBase providing an exciting environment for learning and discovery.
