Duplex Fire, McDonalds Madness, Peace Memorial Flowers & More 2025-06-08 - This ride journal begins checking out what was being cluelessly called "significant damage" to a house on Dryden that was having its roof re-built; The pile of debris on the lawn (the old roof) and plastic over the top were being noted as evidence of "significant damage" but had nothing to do with the small electrical fire. The blaze was almost immediately extinguished. For all the mean-spirited people on social media seizing the opportunity to suggest that "Shacktown" needs to be torn down: Whoever owns this duplex was making an effort to fix the place by replacing the roof. If you hate Norwayne Historic District that much, please stay away - we don't need the negativity. Next I document the aftermath of a flare-up at the Wayne x Michigan McDonald's; I'd have started filming sooner except one of the people involved was a decent off-duty employee who subscribes to this YouTube channel. I cross the road to check on the Veterans' Peace Memorial area and cursed parking garage that is slated for demolition. I am surprised that the flower beds inside the barricaded park are blossoming nicely though overgrown now with no groundskeeping contractors tending to them. Too bad the library property apparently doesn't include the nice little park inside the barricade, because it was a great area to relax, catch fresh air and utilize the public WiFi. I ride around the parking garage area and note a sign saying that it's a "Waste Energy Facility Demolition Site." Apparently a "Waste Energy Facility" is a trash incinerator - which doesn't fit the parking garage description in any way; I have the feeling that the demo company was re-using signage from the June 2023 demolition of an old Detroit incinerator site. I roll Southward on Second Street down the hill and over the bridge, then hang a right on Ash to the Wayne Memorial High School campus and check out the Little Free Library near the new school entrance, then close out the video journal before retreating to the Poopenheimer Archives deep in the heart of the Norwayne Historic District.
