I actually had this video done a LONG time ago, but just never got around to uploading because a lot of things got in the way. But yeah, some actual gameplay of Spec Ops: The Line! Done on FUBAR difficulty, because I hate myself. Apologies for how choppy the footage is; my rig ain't that good and this is the best I could do with an air-conditioner cooled craptop exported at 30 frames. Midway through my first attempt at this level, my game crashed, and so there's actually a cut somewhere in this video to splice the two videos I recorded. See if you can spot it! Combat Op has no internal name; it is instead treated as the baseline difficulty and the other difficulties are just modifications of it. Walker is wearing a hydration pack on his back, a pretty sensible choice for a recon mission into a desert environment. Believe or not, this is actually foreshadowing; I'll touch on this again in a later video. (The rest of his kit is significantly sillier, but everyone's outfits in this game runs entirely on rule-of-cool rules anyway.) The game thinks I'm using an XBox controller for whatever reason if the pop-up contextual controls are anything to go by, even though it should be very obvious that I'm not. I don't know why, but I did suffer from a most peculiar bug where the game experienced phantom stick drift despite no controller being plugged in, and only fixed it by going to SREngine.ini and straight up disabling joystick input. Near the start of the chapter, you'll encounter a herd of oryxes. Shoot them for a free achievement (Deer Hunter). This is pretty much the only opportunity you'll get to do so; to my knowledge the only other play oryxes appear is Chapter 11 - Alone, and you have to make a specific choice in the moral decision beforehand just for the opportunity. All your ammo is refunded the moment actual combat begins, so don't worry about wasting ammo here. Intel #1 is Konrad's confession letter, found taped to a chalkboard in the abandoned outpost just before combat begins for the first time. I don't care what whatever Steam guide you consulted before watching this video told you. The pistols in the game aren't actually bad weapons; the Beretta has a lot of reserve ammo and is a good backup gun, and the other two pistols are powerful magnums that drop enemies fast. More importantly though, Walker's sprinting animation with one handed weapons (i.e. the pistols and also the Micro Uzi, but the Micro Uzi is garbage) is a bit faster than with his long gun. This doesn't sound like a lot of help, but the extra mobility when moving between cover is EXTREMELY useful, especially on FUBAR where you die in a single digit number of shots. Suppressors don't actually decrease the damage you do, even if it sure sounds like it. You're free to keep the can on your weapon at all times if you wish. RPG snipers are programmed to narrowly miss you. This doesn't mean they're harmless because you can still get killed by the AoE, but it does mean that they're low-priority targets and you're generally free to tag them for Lugo to take care of while you focus on enemies that can actually kill you. Intel #2 is the damaged black box, found next to the Alpha Patrol trooper who gets blasted in the back with a Winchester. This one's pretty in your way and I'll be surprised if you don't notice it on a casual run. I had significantly more thoughts to yap out loud but I was way overstepping the 5000 character limit so I cut half of what I had to say. (This description is still just barely under 4100 characters in length.)
