The short answer, it's impossible to guarantee that there won't be any rippling. When you have a mastectomy, we're literally removing all of your breast tissue. This leaves you with a very thin skin envelope and your pectoralis major muscle. One of the ways that we're currently performing breast reconstruction surgery is to place the implant above the pectoralis muscle. There are a few reasons for that; easier recovery, and it's easier and safer to perform. There are pros and cons to placing the implant in either position, above or below the muscle. With either option, once you've had a mastectomy and been left with a much thinner skin envelope, you are still very likely to have rippling at some point in your life.
