This is the setup I use when I want to do insane amounts of damage with my Knife. Sacrificing Gentle Approach for Mighty Muscle can give a decent damage boost, but you will need to spam arts quickly to prevent auto-attacking. Against certain enemies you can switch some Appendage Crushers with other Melee Attack Up or Boost augments. Millesaurs just happen to have extremely tough feet. You can also equip the Melee Attack Boost leg armor (you can buy this from the store) and hit enemies with Control for an extra debuff. Control does not appear to work on tyrants and requires some TP so I find it is normally better to keep Smooth Recovery on. The damage on this build comes from stacking melee attack and debuffs. Ether Boost and other Attack Augments do not seem to have much effect. Supreme Sword also seems to have little effect on the damage, likely due to it not increasing the base damage not the bonus damage. Mighty Muscle actually gives me a much greater damage increase. Pretty much every non-tyrant enemy in the game will die in one Black Bane with only 4 or 5 debuffs on this build anyways.. At higher overdrive counts it can actually be impossible to prevent auto-attacking! the knife is too quick. I encountered this issue against Gradivus, but it actually adds decent DPS so Gentle Approach is much better in this situation. I recommend using Gentle Approach and finding some Melee Attack Up effects instead of giving up 2 effect slots for Soft Touch. With Max Overdrive Count and higher Melee Attack Power it is entirely possible to do 10m+ Solo. Evidently you can go much higher with a debuff support squad. Hitting weaker appendages will do much more damage, but against certain enemies you can only reach tougher appendages. This is also possible with a sleep support squad who can stack even more debuffs on enemies! Black Bane is easily the best move in the game with a sleep support squad, it is capable of hitting insane amounts of damage even when using a defensive aura, unlike the Longsword. Appendages actually have a set damage resistance level (the appendage softness tier) which is why Appendage Crushers actually increase damage by large amounts when targetting appendages. Against weakspots which may already have -2 of more softness you will likely only need 2 appendage crushers (it can only go to -5 softness tier). The Gauze Eyepatch gives this effect as well as Ether Resistance, it is one of the best headgear in the game regardless of build as it allows you to save a weapon slot. Update: Apparently Black Bane can do over 30m with a Debuff Support Squad..
