Redes (1935) Silvestre Revueltas (1899-1940) arr. Erich Kleiber Héctor Jardón - Conductor Lamont Symphony Orchestra, University of Denver Performed on November 17th, 2021. The music of Mexican composer Silvestre Revueltas represents the height of the nationalistic artistic movement in Mexico in the 1930s and 1940s. Redes (meaning: nets) is the film score for a movie with the same name. The film narrates the life of a fisherman who is struggling to provide for his family, take care of his ill son, and eventually deals with the son’s death and intense mourning. The full duration of the film score is about one hour and thirty minutes. This arrangement by Erich Kleiber is an orchestral reduction as well as a compilation of highlights of the original score. It is divided in two different sections, both of which contain the main melody that represents the fisherman and his struggle to save his son’s life.
