Soldiers, residents and doctors STORYLINE: Several Colombian military medical teams arrived to the city of Florencia in Caqueta state, 235 miles (378 kilometers) southwest of Colombian capital Bogota, to offer free medical attention to thousands of residents. The medical team attended about three-thousand people who suffered from illnesses caused by extreme poverty after 39 years of civil war in Colombia. According to Luis Alberto Ardila, military commander of Florencia, the mission - which ended on Sunday - was providing free medical care. Some residents had rotten teeth extracted, received treatment for intestinal worms or had tropical rashes examined. The US government has given Colombia more than 80-thousand US dollars in order to help the Colombian Army to perform humanitarian missions. Colombia has received nearly 2.5 (b) billion US dollars from the US in the last three years to battle drug trafficking and a leftist rebel insurgency as part of 'Plan Colombia'. Colombia was the third biggest recipient of United States (US) aid last year.
