Here’s my copy of Where’s My Daddy? by The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band, released in 1969 on Amos Records. The band came out of Los Angeles, California, and this was their fifth and final studio album. Compared to their earlier records, the music here is darker and more stripped down. The whimsical, trippy psych of the first albums had mostly faded, replaced by bleak lyrics about poverty, disillusionment, and life on the streets of L.A. in the late 60s. Bob Markley was still steering the group, and his vision pushed the record into more unsettling territory - part social commentary, part psych experiment, more haunting than playful. The cover has always been a bit controversial, featuring a young girl in a stark street setting that mirrors the album’s themes of alienation and despair. Standout tracks for me: Where’s My Daddy, Outside/Inside, and Coming of Age in L.A. Ripped from my own vinyl copy. 📷 More vinyl on Instagram: / vinyl_piper 🎧 Full Vinyl Rips playlist: • Vinyl Rips of my OG Records Similar bands: The United States of America, The Electric Prunes, The Peanut Butter Conspiracy, Lothar and the Hand People, and Sagittarius.
