Feed weekly with liquid seaweed plant food into the crown of the tree fern where the living croziers or fronds are emerging. Protect the tree fern during the winter time by wrapping the crown. The base of the tree fern will produce roots but these are not necessarily to feed the crown, more for stability, so it is not necessary to bury the base in the ground. You can remove dead fronds if you wish. I prefer to because the dead ones look ugly. Don't over water in the winter but prevent from drying out. After winter be patient, give the tree fern food and water and it should come back well.
