Dada International Unlimited proudly presents Cans of Corn! This new live-show, hosted by yours truly, will feature a cornucopia of cornversation, debate, drama and dadaist perspective on a wide range of topics. For this episode we have Axel Fair-Schulz on the show to introduce Erich Fromm's critique of 20th century Soviet-style "state-socialism", which still would be relevant to our own conflicts and struggles in the 21st century. His version of Marxist humanism was rooted in rejecting and exposing the dual pathologies of Western capitalism and Soviet-Era bureaucratic and authoritarian "real existing socialism," as that system officially referred to itself. To Fromm, genuine socialism could only mean the expansion of democracy, social justice, and ecological sustainability far beyond what either Washington or Moscow were prepared to allow. He was aware of, and a catalyst for, critical and creative Marxists in the Eastern Bloc, among them Adam Schaff, Wolfgang Harich, and Robert Havemann. We'll host a zoom meeting after the show, and you can find the link with an invitation in the comment section of the Patreon post for this video. Feel free to join us!
