Join me on a wild camping adventure on Slieve Meelmore, one of the iconic peaks in the Mourne Mountains of Northern Ireland. Standing at 687 metres, Slieve Meelmore offers sweeping views across the range, including Slieve Bearnagh to the south and Slieve Meelbeg to the west. It’s a favourite among hikers for its accessible trails, dramatic ridgelines, and proximity to popular starting points like the Trassey Track and Ott Car Park. On this trip, I set up camp near the summit, where high winds were forecast at 48mph – and they didn’t disappoint. Despite the conditions, my gear held up well, and the solitude up there was unbeatable. This video captures the raw beauty and wild weather of the Mournes — a reminder of just how special this landscape is. I'm camping in a Durston X-Mid 1p. If you're into wild camping, lightweight setups, and the untamed feel of the hills, this one’s for you. 00:00 Introduction 01:33 Path to the Mournes 02:10 Crossing the dry marsh ground 03:37 Water crossing 05:19 Meelmore / Bearnagh saddle 05:46 Ascending Meelmore 06:06 Check out the views 06:32 What a sky! 07:25 Some thoughts 08:08 Craig forgot his food 09:18 The night sky 10:41 The next morning 13:06 Packing up 14:13 Heading back 15:02 Explaining what happened to my Durston X-Mid 1p
