IMS Museum Restoration Project: Lotus 29/1 Livery Unveil For years, the Lotus 29/1 was presented as Jim Clark’s in “British racing green.” Thanks to the generous support of IMS Museum donors, the vehicle is undergoing a publicly-funded restoration. This project will return the car to its original operating condition with Gurney’s American international racing colors of white with blue trim. The Museum is grateful to George Lyons of Contemporary Motorcar for his part in the restoration process. “We wanted it to be exactly how Dan (Gurney) slid into it at the drop of the flag,” said George. He and his crew, alongside the Museum, did quite a bit of research to ensure the decals and various details of the paint job were race day accurate. “But that’s the fun part for me,” Lyons continued. “I like the historic challenge. I learned that when I did some of my first roadsters.” The Museum’s goal is to honor this great champion—and history—by returning the Lotus 29/1 to its original 1963 race day condition. While work continues on the rest of the car, we are excited to share a glimpse of the restoration. The newly painted tub will be on display for one week only from July 13-19. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum is one of the world's premier destinations dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of motorsports competition and motor vehicles, with emphasis on the history of the Indianapolis 500-Mile Race.
