The Innovator’s Journey | Stephen Brand | TEDxSpringfield

How do you inspire and unleash the innovators of tomorrow? Ask the innovators of today. Stephen will share a 14-year journey of asking innovators what inspired and influenced them as children.  His talk explores three emerging themes – Immersing children in multi-sensory experiences, not judging their future by traditional measures, and allowing them to take ownership of their own learning. As he learned, innovators were not controlled by the fear of exploration but the thrill of discovery.  They developed confidence by being trusted by adults and were more intrigued with questions while not knowing answers.  Stephen will share ideas for how parents and educators can seed learning and inspire innovative thinking. It’s all about wondering, wondering and imagining the future. As Executive Director of Global Learning and Development at Bay Path University, Stephen is responsible for leading professional development experiences. As Co-Director of the Summer Venture Program at Babson College, Stephen worked with students to launch new ventures. He developed Design Thinking curricula for a new university in the middle east and has taught courses in entrepreneurship. He continues to work with entrepreneurs and faculty from around the world as they look to launch innovation culture in their own countries and beyond. As an innovation and new venture consultant, Stephen has worked with: US Olympic Committee, Center for Medical Simulation, Ford Motor Company, The Jim Henson Company, Creative Education Foundation, Children’s Television Workshop, WNET – New York, WGBH- Boston, and the Anchorage Museum. Stephen has a master’s in interactive Technology in Education from Harvard University and a Doctor of Management degree from Case Western Reserve University.
