The Department of Political Economy at King's College London welcomed world-leading academic Professor Adam Przeworski (New York University) on 25 March as part of its acclaimed Distinguished Lecture series. In Conflicts, Elections, and Democracy, Prof Przeworski discussed a brief history of democracy, its relative fragility and the key elements that he believes allow it to successfully establish and survive. Prof Przeworski also discussed the guard rails and conventions that keep democracies from sliding into tyranny and then examined the situation in the United States where some of those facets are being eroded.
