In this session, we explore how responsible business practice becomes visible in the operational systems that support an organisation’s day-to-day functioning. Building on earlier sessions covering ethics, culture, governance, leadership and stakeholder engagement, we now shift our attention to the heart of organisational activity – procurement, supply chain management, operations, logistics and HR. This session covers: • How corporate social responsibility (CSR) shapes procurement decisions • Ethical risks in supply chains, including supplier integrity, fraud, exploitation and transparency • Environmental responsibility through the Five Rs – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Recover and Redesign • The link between sustainable operations, resource efficiency and organisational ethics • The role of logistics in reducing environmental and social impact • HR’s responsibility for fair labour practices, wellbeing, inclusion and ethical organisational culture We also revisit and clarify Assessment 2, building on the conversation from Session 8. In this recording you will find: • Guidance on structuring the assignment using cases and perspectives • Clarification on how to present background, analysis and recommendations • A reminder on the use of credible academic and policy sources • Requirements for the group charter, process log and peer evaluation forms • Advice on giving constructive feedback within your group • A reminder to upload supporting documents as separate PDFs This session emphasises that corporate citizenship is not abstract theory. It is expressed in operational choices made by buyers, managers, teams and suppliers, and shaped by the values and ethical commitments explored throughout the module. Watch the session to prepare for your assignment and deepen your understanding of how responsible organisations create value across the entire supply chain.
