Music by John Williams Conducted by Harry Kane, BR'18 Performed at 'DPops Goes Outside' at Battell Chapel on April 23 This 1981 Steven Spielberg and George Lucas classic, Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, tells the exciting story of an archaeologist who must hunt down the Ark of the Covenant before it falls into the hands of the Nazis. The music starts with a low trombone line establishing a march-like beat. Next, the trumpets enter with the promise of adventure and glory in perhaps one of the most recognizable melodies in film score history. The booming trumpet line, flight-like runs of the woodwinds, and marching beat of the trombones and strings morphs into a beautifully sweeping lyric carried by the cellos, calling to mind Indiana Jones’s main love interest, Marion Ravenwood. As this music fades out, the woodwinds abruptly begin Indiana’s marching beat, as he must continue his mission and save the day. The full orchestra plays this final march as Indiana rides off into the sunset, once again called to his next adventure.
