The UK will pay a price for the delay in military deployment the war in the Middle East, according to former National Security Adviser Lord Sedwill. Speaking to the BBC's Today programme, Sedwill says "there will be consequences", including frustration from the US and other allies in the Gulf region. "Under successive governments there's been an erosion of the basics", he says, adding "there is an urgent need to get our existing forces up to fighting readiness."
