I’M BACK Y’ALL! After almost a full month of no Komet Hockey videos, we are back. Dear God, I didn’t want to think about Komets Hockey over my vacation time. Players strike and losing skid were major factors. I hope everyone had a good holiday and a good start to 2026. In other news, Yoimiya finally got some love in the last video. The Fort Wayne Komets (18-7-6) Have fallen to 2nd place inevitably over the break with a 6 game losing streak to bookend the old and new year. 4 of the 6 losses were in overtime, so at least that’s 4 points in bag at least? Back-to-back wins has the Komets now only behind The Fish by the Regulation Win Tiebreaker. A lot has changed, so much, that I cannot talk about it all, or even know about the moves. Odeen Tufto is gone, like a certain Morgan Adams-Moisan fella, has decided to play the rest of the year in the second tier of German Hockey. That’s a big ouch for the Komets as they lose one of their best face-off and power play players. Lynden McCallum is back in a Komets sweater. Unfortunately Zach Jordan is a Cap Casualty and was traded to Maine as a by-product. McCallum was nearly a point per game player back in the 2021-22 season with the Komets, his best scoring clip of his career. He’s free from the purgatory that is the Maine Mariners. Maybe the Komets can get the scoring touch out of McCallum’s potential. The big acquisition story is the Komets getting Matt Berry from The UK. Left Scotland one day, and was playing Hockey in Independence, Missouri the next day. Berry is a seasoned veteran in the minor leagues with a decent scoring touch. He hasn’t skipped a beat as he scored on Friday night against Cincinnati. It’s a tough adjustment from European to North American Ice Hockey, let alone doing it in the span of one day is all the more impressive, watch Berry be a big factor as the playoff push is looming ever larger. LAST SECOND EDITORS NOTE: Brady Stonehouse and Matt Brown have been called up to Bakersfield. Leaving the Komets with just 12 Forwards and 6 Defensemen healthy on the active roster. The Toledo Walleye (19-7-4) on the other hand have lost back-to-back games this week. Losing to the Roadkill on Friday night and to the Komets in a game that the Walleye never led, which is rare for The Fish this year. Brandon Hawkins is still Brandon Hawkins, he leads the league in points scoring with 16 goals and 27 assists for 43 points. Toledo has a well rounded team as per usual. Defensemen Riley McCourt is tied for the league in Power Play assists with Brandon Hawkins. As you might have expected, Toledo has the best Power Play in the league with a lethal 30.8%. 7% better than second place Lake Tahoe (we’ll see Tahoe later on this month.) The penalty kill has been mid-table this season, and surprisingly worse than the Komets. That’s bizarre considering how dismal the Komets PK was in November and December. Toledo leads the way in Shorthanded goals this season with 12, yes 12, and it’s only the beginning of January. So if this game goes to the special teams way, Toledo maybe looking for the slight edge to catch the Komets napping. In which, with the Cory Melkert Special Teams Experience, you don’t know what you’re going to get from one night to the next. The Komets special teams have been quite good this weekend so maybe that could take a sting out of Toledo’s offence if that trend continues. The next video from me will be (Government ban hammer not taken into account) will be on Saturday’s game against the Bloomington Bison, the first time that The Bison will be featured in a Komets Home fixture! Should be a good one with playoff implications and a potential round 1 preview maybe?
