Families react to Quilcene School Board's vote banning transgender athletes

The state superintendent's office is responding to a school district's vote banning transgender athletes from competing in school sports. The 3-2 decision made by the Quilcene School Board violates state law and has sparked debate from people on both sides of the issue. “And whereas, the board believes that to maintain fairness and equity in competition, biological males and biological females should compete in sports categories corresponding to their biological sex at birth," Quilcene School Board Vice Chair Jim Hodgson read at the May 7 meeting.
