Meet the Pakistani nationals granted Indian citizenship | Citizenship Amendment Act | CAA

That wait for Indian citizenship ended for 181 Pakistani nationals in Gujarat this July when they received it under the Citizenship Amendment Act, or CAA. Four others were granted it through the discretionary powers of local authorities. The journey and the wait wasn't easy. Many still live in poverty, working as daily wage labourers. Some ask for government help in the form of plots of land, agricultural aid, or job schemes to rebuild their lives. And even among the newly naturalised, the feeling persists that full belonging is still a work in progress. Here's what some of them have experienced all these years.
