In this video, I show you how to make an incredible Shepherd's Pie! INGREDIENTS (Serves 5): Potatoes (1 kg) Butter Salt Milk (~ 1 cup) Cheddar Cheese Egg Yolk (2) Beef/ Mutton mince (1 kg) Onions Garlic Mint Oil (2-3 tbsp) Soy Sauce Worcestershire Sauce Flour (2 tbsp) Chicken/ Beef stock (1.5-2 cups) Salt DIRECTIONS: Mash: 1. Wash and peel your potatoes and cut them into equal-sized pieces and place them in a large pot. 2. Add cold water over them until they're fully submerged and generously salt the water. 3. Bring up to an aggressive boil, lower the heat and cook for around 8-12 minutes or until they're fork/knife tender (a knife can easily pierce them) 4. Drain the water and transfer the potatoes to a bowl and mash roughly with a potato masher or fork. 5. OPTIONAL Pass the potatoes through a fine mesh sieve using a spatula to get a super fine and smooth mash texture. 6. Add salt to your potatoes and then add your MELTED butter and mix thoroughly. 7. Add warm milk in stages while mixing in between until you reach the texture of your choice. 8. Grate in some cheddar cheese and add 2 egg yolks, mix and set aside. Mince: 1. Roughly chop up your onions, mince your garlic, and finely mince your mint leaves. 2. Add your room-temperature meat to a large pan and cook until all the water has evaporated and the pinkness in the meat is gone. Remove from the pan when this stage is reached. 3. Add 2 tbsp of oil and then add your onions and cook for around 2-3 minutes. 4. Add your garlic and cook for another 2 minutes and then add your beef back in. 5. Mix to combine everything and then add your soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce and mix again. 6. Add your flour, mix, and cook for around 3 minutes to remove the taste of raw flour. 7. Add your stock and simmer on medium heat for around 12-15 minutes or until the mince thickens considerably. 8. Taste and season with salt and finish with your mint leaves. Assembly: 1. Preheat your oven to 180 c. 2. Add your minced meat to the bottom of a pie dish and smoothen it out so it's even. 3. Add your potatoes in dollops over the meat mince so it doesn't dent. 4. Use a fork and smoothen out the potatoes and make sure to go right up to the edges and even the top at the end. 5. Bake in the oven for around 15-30 minutes or until the top is nice and golden brown. 6. Let it rest for at least 30 minutes before serving so the filling and potatoes have time to relax.
