Short opinion on Wire, the British post punk band Red Barked Tree Nocturnal Koreans Chairs Missing A Bell Is A Cup Until It Is Struck Well, these are just a few of the albums made by a band called Wire Formed in 1976 they are still active today and still making quite remarkable albums Their music raises questions because their idea of rock music is quite intruiging to say the least. Wire are not only expanding the boundaries of sound into rock but also vice versa Its probably fair to say their music is deconstruction, readjustment and reinvention at the same time Okay this sounds quite intellectual, I know, but after repeated listening and getting more used to it you'll find out that many of the songs by Wire have something organic and even sparkling about them But just like a good neighbour, the experiment is always around Sometimes the songs knock on the neighbours door for some extra help and that's when the fun begins When they start experimenting with song arrangements In between layers of guitars and a very tight drum pattern the melodies mostly sung by Colin Newman seem to go into a different direction Despite all this Wire deliver striking melodies and inventive ideas The lyrics which are mainly written by Colin Newman and sometimes Graham Lewis are in between the abstract and the absurd assuming different characters and identities It doesn't matter where you come from. All that matters is where you are going. Wire are not just some band using a familiar rock lineup like guitars, bass, drums and vocals. After their first records and 10 years of hiatus, the band came up with a change of direction using more electronic music. When some of these albums were released at the time, late eigthies and early nineties, like Manscape, The Ideal Copy, The First Letter, and A Bell Is A Cup. they were highly misunderstood and undervalued But I think these albums are among their best work. Anyway, the most interesting part of listening to Wire is: you don't have a clue about whats really going on. Their motto always seems to be one of their albums titles: Change Becomes Us.
