India’s message to Nepal as Kathmandu burns in protest against alleged corruption in KP Oli Govt

Ministry of External Affairs of India issued its statement on the recent development in Nepal. Closely monitoring situation, deeply saddened by the loss of many young lives: said MEA. MEA conveyed its prayers for families of deceased and injured in violent protest in Nepal witnessed. People in large number rallied the street in what is called ‘Gen Z’ protest after ban on Social Media platforms. Protest turned violent after Police used water cannons, tear gas, rubber guns to disperse protesters by force. MEA advised Indian Nationals to exercise caution and adhere to steps & guidelines issued by Nepali authorities. As close neighbour, India advocated for ‘dialogue & restraint’ to implement peace on ground. At least 19 people killed and over 200 people were injured during the protests across Kathmandu. Worsening situation triggered the authorities to impose curfew on streets of the capital city of Kathmandu. Demonstrators noted that protest is not limited to Social Media ban, but focuses on corruption in Government. Protest continue well beyond the revocation of ban imposed on the Social Media Ban platforms in the country.
