Hoboken ShopRite Employee Arrested for Stealing From Cash Register

Around 2:39 PM on October 12, 2024, Officers Anthony Olivera and Michael Aviles with the Hoboken Police Department responded to a report of an employee who had allegedly stolen cash from the ShopRite on 900 Madison Street. They made contact with the loss prevention staff as they entered the store and they were informed that the employee was being interviewed upstairs. After a brief wait, they walked upstairs to the loss prevention office and made contact with the alleged thief. The man was identified as 37-year-old Lenzie Bryant. The officers were informed that an audit revealed a shortage of cash, and a subsequent review of their surveillance footage confirmed that Lenzie had stolen cash from them on multiple occasions. It was estimated that he had stolen approximately $800 over the course of several shifts based on the evidence that they had. Since ShopRite wanted to sign a complaint against him, Lenzie was placed under arrest. The manager informed Lenzie that he was suspended from his job. After the officers gathered some information from the store employees and another employee retrieved Lenzie’s bag, he was escorted to the patrol car. He was transported by the officers to Hoboken Police Department for further processing.
