Dive into the natural wonders of the Yucatán Peninsula through reefs, jungles, and coastal lagoons. This documentary follows a wildlife journey across Mexico, filmed entirely in December 2025. The film begins in Playa del Carmen, where vibrant coral reefs host gorgonians, reef fish, and intricate macro life revealed through underwater photography. The experience intensifies with close encounters with pregnant bull sharks, among the largest predators regularly observed in these waters during the winter season. The expedition then continues to Cozumel, an island famous for its dramatic walls and powerful currents. Here, the reef ecosystem unfolds along steep drop-offs populated by moray eels, eagle rays, nurse sharks, barracudas, and a rich diversity of Caribbean reef species. Leaving the marine environment, the journey moves inland to Punta Laguna, where tropical forest reveals spider monkeys and howler monkeys living high in the canopy, rarely descending to the forest floor. These encounters offer an intimate look at primate behavior within a protected jungle ecosystem. The exploration continues within Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO-protected landscape where tropical forest, mangroves, and estuarine waterways connect to the Caribbean Sea. Traveling through historic Maya canals, the film documents wetland wildlife, coastal birds of prey, and the ecological transition between freshwater and saltwater environments. The final chapter unfolds in Río Lagartos, a coastal lagoon system known for its crocodiles, mangroves, pelicans, herons, and flamingos. This unique ecosystem illustrates the dynamic balance between predators, birdlife, and aquatic habitats shaped by tides and sediment. Filming and production details: – Underwater video filmed with Nikon Z8 and Panasonic GH5 – Still photography captured with Nikon Z8 – Wildlife sequences filmed with Nikon Z6III and Nikkor 24–120 mm – Long-range wildlife imagery captured with Nikon Z8 and Nikkor 180–600 mm This film is a visual exploration of biodiversity across marine, forest, and coastal ecosystems — an invitation to observe the richness and interconnectedness of life in the Mexican Caribbean.
