Holly is a wildlife tour leader with Heatherlea, a successful tour company based in Speyside offering Birding and Wildlife Holidays in Scotland and Worldwide. A keen birder from an early age, Holly moved from Lancashire to Strathspey in 2020 and joined the Heatherlea guiding team. As well as birds she has a passion for all aspects of natural history. The Canary Islands form a fascinating sub-tropical archipelago consisting of seven main islands of volcanic origin set 100km off the Moroccan coast. The western islands all rise to 1200m or higher and reach 3700m on Teide on Tenerife. The flora is exceptionally rich in endemic species and the bird life includes several species confined to the Canaries and/or the Azores and Madeira such as Bolle's Pigeon and Laurel Pigeon, Blue Chaffinch, Canary Island Chat and Canary. Additionally there are small populations of African species such as Cream-coloured Courser, Houbara Bustard and Tumpeter Finch. Seabirds such as petrels and shearwaters abound. Migrants from the Africa, America and Europe can rub shoulders on these oceanic outposts. The Canary Islands offer a dramatic array of habitats from sea level to high montane in close juxtaposition. Holly takes us on a bespoke ornithological tour of the archipelago.
